Caring Neighbors

Caring Neighbors, assists seniors and disabled persons to continue to live independently in their own homes.  All clients must meet HUD low income guidelines. This is accomplished through programs which provide minor home repair, yard work, escorted transportation and Shared Housing (matching seniors and disabled for housing needs).

Funding is primarily through Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and secondarily through individual , group, and organizational donations.  This service is currently offered in Chula Vista and Santee.

Project Hand Emergency Assistance

Project Hand Emergency Assistance is a service that provides food and other emergency assistance service to clients. Addressing these needs, assisting clients in the process of moving from poverty toward self-sufficiency. Clients are individuals or families experiencing an emergency with an immediate need. They maybe homeless, unemployed, out of jail or rehab, without health insurance or needing emergency assistance for other reasons. This service is currently offered at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church (Chula Vista), Lemon Grove Lutheran Church.

Talent Search Program

LSSSC Talent Search, is a 100% federally funded program that will serve 500 High School students between San Ysidro and Sweetwater High Schools. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete postsecondary education.  The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youth from underprivileged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
